Bio
Malcolm Hollifield, Jr. a former assistant at multiple, powerhouse high school programs, will be joining the Pirates men's basketball staff as an assistant coach in August of 2024 following a state championship season with former Head Coach Corry Black and the St Anne-Pacelli Vikings.
Hollifield played a major role in the Pacelli MBB staff by increasing skill development and bringing another set of experienced eyes to the St-Anne Pacelli Vikings. The Vikings put together a phenomenal season by defeating historically talented teams such as Valdosta 7A (68-64), Douglas County 6A (65-51), South Paulding 5A (74-46), Warner Robins 5A (63-69), Ocoee 7A (60-57) and Greater Atlanta Christian 5A (57-48)! The Vikings played a very difficult schedule including 5A-7A public school programs, which prepared them to finish the season as 2024 AAAA GIAA State Champions!
Before his time at Pacelli, Hollifield coached under Head Coach Charles Burkett with the Central Red Devils in Phenix City Alabama. He helped coach Jacoby Hill and the Red Devils to the 7A State Championship against The Hoover Buccaneers where the Red Devils fell short of the win.
Before his time at Central, Hollifield coached at Hoover High School and served as the Middle School and High School assistant coach, under Head Coach Scott Ware. During the 2020-2022 seasons, the middle school Buccaneers went undefeated (14-0) but fell short at Metro both seasons, while the Varsity team went 18-9 (regular season) and 4-2 (area play) during the 2020-2021 season and 21-10 (regular season) and 4-3 (area play) during the 2021-2022 season.
While managing his practice times and game schedule, Hollifield attended and graduated from The University of Alabama at Birmingham where he learned from Dr. Patrick Murphy (UAB Goodrich Chair of Entrepreneurship, Author, Editor-in-chief, top 1% Techstars Mentor and my former Professor). Dr Murphy awarded Hollifield with the “Outstanding UAB Entrepreneurship Major” award in 2022! Dr Murphy as quoted mentioned “Malcolm can work smart and work hard simultaneously. In our program, everyone in the community could really count on him as a colleague and as a person. On one occasion, halfway through a challenging project with a client, the team leader had to step down and Malcolm took over the leadership role on short notice, managed a team of 5 peers, and directed all the work on a project for a demanding entrepreneur-client. Hollifield still to this day communicates and ask for advice from his lifelong mentor Dr. Patrick Murphy!
In 2019-2020, Hollifield started his coaching career at Indian Springs where he helped increase the school history wins while also managing a player development schedule for other high school, college, and pro players.
Hollifield played one season at Birmingham Southern College under former head coach Chris Graves. Hollifield implemented himself as a 3-D player; a player that defends and can shoot the ball from the 3-point line very well. He also carried a 3.3 GPA before he decided to transfer to UAB!
Hollifield received his Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship from UAB in 2022 and is currently enrolled to get his Master of Business Administration from The University of West Alabama. Hollifield is proudly married to his wife Taylor and one daughter Truth!
